AT&T tests limiting subscribers’ Web use

Ok, this bugs me.

AT&T tests limits on subscribers’ Web use

I am not in favor of limiting internet usage caps. With the advent of more people using the web to watch different media streams and the emergance of more and more home based businesses capping usage will only hamper the development of such technologies.

Ok I dont use my web for file sharing and the likes but the caps they are talking about are ridiculously low. Comcast at least gives a fair amount of bandwidth usage but ATT seems to want to squeeze its customers for every cent they can. While I agree there are some that abuse the system at least make the caps something that will affect them and not your everyday household user. The limits are so small that customers will now have to guage how many movies they stream from the internet or from sites such as netflix.

While people may say that 20 gig a month is alot now in the next few years with the emrgent technologies coming on the market, most sites going for media rich content and the devlopment of web based office productivity suites I feel we will soon see that the big communication giants fleesing our pockets.

This is going to be a big cash cow for the corporate media giants. Think of it if a company has 4 000 000 consumers and the average consumer goes over their bandwidth allocation by 5 gigs lets say, that is an extra $20 000 000 for the company at ATT proposed $1.00 extra per gig. Good business profiteering.

Maybe they should consider upgrading the network capacity rather than limiting usage, maybe reinvest that money in building better infrastructure to handle the new information demands of the 21st Century.

Reality Check : Restrictions slow down or in some cases kill progress, and to those users abusing the current system stop it!!!
